Wasiat Luqmān dalam Tafsir Al-Iklīl karya Misbah Mustofa: Kajian Pendidikan dan Relevansinya bagi Pengasuhan Digital
Abstract
Studies on the educational dimensions of Surah Luqmān have predominantly examined verses 12–19 through widely used Arabic and Indonesian commentaries, while the pedagogical content of Javanese pesantren exegesis remains insufficiently explored. This article examines KH. Misbah Mustofa’s Al-Iklīl fī Maʿānī al-Tanzīl on Qur’an 31:13, focusing on the account of Luqmān’s daily counsel to his son and the additional counsels presented in the commentary. The study employs qualitative library research with a tafsir tarbawi approach. The data are analysed through thematic content analysis, informed by Fazlur Rahman’s double-movement approach and a dialogical comparison with contemporary educational theories; Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas’s critique of secular education provides a framework for examining differences in educational aims and foundations. The findings reveal three main features. First, Misbah Mustofa presents daily counsel as sustained accompaniment through which Luqmān’s son, initially described as a disbeliever, eventually embraces Islam. Second, the commentary contains nine additional counsels concerning orientation toward the hereafter, spiritual discipline, social relationships, restraint in speech and self-presentation, and the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. Third, these counsels employ affectionate address, familiar analogies, and concise aphorisms. Their pedagogical implications intersect with contemporary discussions of parental guidance, self-regulation, and social learning, while differing in their theological foundations and ultimate orientation toward tawhid and the hereafter. The article proposes five considerations for digital parenting: sustained parental accompaniment, contextual explanation, discipline in daily routines, restraint in online expression and self-presentation, and careful selection of social relationships and information sources. Since the additional counsels are not attributed to specific sources in the examined text, their origins require further investigation.
