Abstract

This study aims to examine the roles, duties, and competencies of Islamic education supervision in improving learning quality and teacher professionalism. The study applies a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach by analyzing books, national and international journal articles, and relevant academic documents related to Islamic educational supervision. This approach is appropriate as the study focuses on conceptual and theoretical analysis rather than empirical field research.

The findings indicate that Islamic education supervision plays a strategic role in enhancing educational quality through a shift from administrative control to a professional, collaborative, and humanistic coaching approach. Effective supervision encourages reflective teaching practices and continuous professional development. The main duties of Islamic education supervisors include supervision planning, classroom observation, providing constructive feedback, and implementing follow-up actions. These activities contribute positively to improving instructional planning, teaching strategies, and the integration of Islamic values in the learning process.

Moreover, the effectiveness of Islamic education supervision is strongly influenced by supervisors’ comprehensive competencies, encompassing pedagogical, professional, social, managerial, and spiritual competencies. Spiritual competence emerges as a distinctive characteristic, emphasizing moral guidance and value-based leadership. Therefore, Islamic education supervision grounded in professional competencies and Islamic values is essential for achieving sustainable improvement in learning quality and holistic Islamic educational goals.
