Abstract

This research was motivated by the discovery of emotional intelligence problems in children with special needs (hyperactivity) at the Tiji Salabila Foundation, Padang City, the reason researchers conducted this study was that there were hyperactive children who were less able to control their emotions, so the results of this study were useful for parents to pay attention to emotional intelligence in children. hyperactive child. This research was conducted with a qualitative descriptive approach. The key informant is 1 parent of a hyperactive child and the additional informant is 1 therapy teacher. The instruments used in this study were observation and interview guidelines. The technique used in data processing is through data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions.

 The results of this study reveal the emotional intelligence of children with special needs (hyperactivity) as follows: 1. Self-awareness of hyperactive children who are able to recognize their feelings sometimes in certain situations hyperactive children are less aware of their actions, 2. The ability to manage emotions of hyperactive children is less able to control themselves when feeling angry, but sometimes in certain situations able to receive advice from parents and teachers, 3. Optimism hyperactive children have the ability to correct mistakes in doing assignments and are confident during the learning process, 4. Empathy of hyperactive children has not stood out due to lack of sensitivity to the surrounding environment, 5 Social skills hyperactive child who is able to interact with parents and teachers even with reversed vocabulary.
