The research addresses the increasing degradation of ethical discourse in Indonesia's public sphere, particularly in digital and political contexts. By analyzing key Qur'anic verses—such as QS. Al-Baqarah [2]:83, QS. Al-Isrā’ [17]:53, and QS. Al-Ḥujurāt [49]:12—alongside Hamka’s commentary, this paper highlights the integrative ethical framework within Islamic communication. The findings demonstrate that Buya Hamka emphasizes three core principles: honesty, kindness and politeness in speech, and linguistic accuracy in social interactions. These values are linked to the higher objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah), particularly hifẓ al-nafs (protection of life), hifẓ al-‘aql (protection of reason), and hifẓ al-‘irdh (protection of dignity). Furthermore, the study incorporates contemporary sociological and communicative theories to contextualize Hamka's interpretations, showing their continued relevance in fostering moral discourse in today’s society.
Anang Kurniawan, M. Amidst the moral crises affecting today’s youth, the Qur’an is viewed as a comprehensive source of spiritual-psychological guidance. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach, the study integrates field research and library analysis, using a thematic (mawḍū‘ī) tafsir method to identify psychological values embedded in Qur’anic verses. The findings reveal that Qur’anic concepts such as ṣabr (patience), ikhlāṣ (sincerity), tawakkul (trust in God), shukr (gratitude), and khauf–rajā’ (fear–hope balance) significantly contribute to shaping students’ ethical and emotional maturity. In the pesantren setting, these values are internalized through structured religious learning, moral habituation, and the exemplary conduct of teachers. Activities such as sorogan and bandongan foster both cognitive and affective development, while the pesantren’s environment reinforces discipline and spirituality. The study concludes that religious psychological values derived from the Qur’an play a fundamental role in cultivating akhlāq al-karīmah (noble character) among santri and offer an integrative model of character education rooted in Islamic tradition.
Dedi Mustofa Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Islamic Scriptures in Non-Arabic Societies https://journal.kurasinstitute.com/index.php/jisnas/article/view/1437 Sat, 31 May 2025 16:06:31 +0700 Tafsir al-Ṭabarī dan Riwayat Problematik: Pendekatan Intertekstual dalam Tradisi Naratif menurut McAuliffe https://journal.kurasinstitute.com/index.php/jisnas/article/view/1451
This article examines the story of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ marriage to Sayyidah Zainab bint Jahsh as narrated in QS. al-Aḥzāb: 37–38, employing a narrative-critical approach to Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī, with a primary focus on problematic ḥadīths (al-dakhīl) that have shaped interpretations of the text. One of the contested reports suggests that the Prophet ﷺ fell in love with Zainab after seeing her unveiled—an account that lacks a sound chain of transmission and directly contradicts the doctrinal principle of prophetic infallibility (ma‘ṣūmiyyah). Unlike Isrā’īliyyāt, which stem from Judeo-Christian traditions, these problematic reports originate from within early Islamic narratives and were often transmitted uncritically in classical exegesis. Using Jane Dammen McAuliffe’s framework—emphasizing intertextuality and narrative framing—this study argues that classical tafsīr is not ideologically neutral, but shaped by selective citation and narrative construction that can obscure the theological intent of the Qur’anic text. Accordingly, tafsīr is understood not merely as an exegetical explanation of scripture, but as a discursive space where meaning and authority are continually negotiated. The article concludes that a critical re-reading of the Zainab episode is necessary to cleanse it of unsound reports and to reaffirm its Qur’anic purpose: the abrogation of pre-Islamic adoption practices (tabannī) and the establishment of divine law above inherited social norms.
Ahmad Zaiyadi, Kunti Rofikoh Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Islamic Scriptures in Non-Arabic Societies https://journal.kurasinstitute.com/index.php/jisnas/article/view/1451 Fri, 27 Jun 2025 16:57:58 +0700
